«You’re left hungry, fully certain that 34 minutes – let alone five – will never be enough of this very, very good thing.” / Pitchfork

Høstutstillingen 2011 falt for min fetters ape!

Congrats to artist Joachim Cossais, who gets great reviews at the annual Autumn Exhibition in Oslo! Mark the name:)

Quality warning!

Summer seems to be over before it even started; storms and floods are daily news, and work brutally awaits after some lazy weeks. Hopefully everyone has had a good time and enjoyed these couple of months to the max. What is better then, when it gets darker, than some really atmospheric music with great musicians and beautiful pictures from what looks like the end of the world? I was so lucky I came across this video with Norwegian trumpeter/electronica artist Nils Petter Molvær and his new band, which will set the right mood for any autumn day. Find a blanket and make yourself that cup of tea… Push «play» and lean back. Hopefully you will enjoy it too!

First result out – The Trigger! :)

All the Norwegian students here at Mediehuset, Sweden, have been working on their own individual projects lately. The last month we have completed the creative journey «From idea to master». We have all been forced to finish one or two musical ideas each – our own or others´ – which is a very good thing, since as we all know creative people and musicians are not the best in keeping time schedules and finish their work… For my own sake, I chose to work with two of my own ideas this time. One of them came out of nowhere, one night a couple of weeks ago when I was mixing another project. «The Trigger» was done during an hour, or at least melody, basic rhytm, vocal and lyrics. From there the rest was arranged, and with some good help on guitar and drums, it grew to be a slightly experimental piece I am starting to get proud of! I have also mixed and mastered it, with some help from reference music and internet tutorials, as well as Alexander U. Case´s book Sound FX. And my dear ears. I have learned incredibly much of this project. And I feel like I have teared down a big wall just by completing this. I want to do more, more, more! Feel free to give feedback. I want to learn more. All the time! 🙂

Here you can listen to «The Trigger»:

By no means I´m done with it. Things have to be cut in. But the sketch is there.

(«Sweet Assassin» will be out too)

Bringing up old skills…

I had a really nice recording session in the Mediehuset studio yesterday, adding vocals to Johannes´ film score. The cue in need of vocals wasn´t long, but it was still challenging to hit the highest highs without any «crispness», bringing back my «opera voice» from a time far bygone… While I usually wish I had a more raspy and unique voice, the challenge was opposite yesterday. It was a lot of fun though, and hopefully the takes are good enough for the very beautiful and professional sounding music Johannes is making to the movie «Avatar», in this exam project at Mediehuset. Everybody should remember the name Johannes Hallanger in the future, I predict he´s going to make it big as a music producer and composer. If allowed to, I will post the result here on this page after the 6th of June.

My newest muse?

Not much activity on here lately from my side… Busy mixing and recording – finally – two of my own songs! Can´t wait to finally get something out there.

In the meantime I have to share my newest addiction with you. Frontman Thom Yorke (Radiohead)´s electronica solo debut, The Eraser from 2006, was just right on the spot for me. Must have been a fool not to have discovered it before. Driving a car must be the best way to discover new music… Songs 3- 6 are quite uninteresting compared to the rest, but I give you track 8 Horrowdown Hill as a huge source of inspiration from one of the greatest lyricists of the music world! Could this be a new Stripsearch (Faith No More) to me? 🙂 Enjoy this (Grammy nominated) video from the great genius.
